Ch. D' YQUEM 1967 $2 418 /btle
"Based solely on the strength of what is unquestionably a great Yquem, many have concluded that 1967 was a superb vintage for Sauternes. The truth is that 1967 was a very good but irregular vintage. As for Yquem, it is close to perfection. Anticipated maturity: Now-2035."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1970 $794 /btle
"The 1970 Yquem is a large-scaled, rich, full-bodied, fairly alcoholic Yquem with significant flavor interest as well as crisp acidity. Unlike the 1971, which is close to peak maturity, this wine has a long way to go and is impressive, but not yet revealing all of its potential. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1975 $874 /btle
The 1975 may turn out to be the greatest of the modern-day Yquems. When fully mature in another 25-30 years, it may rival the extraordinary 1937 and 1921. This is a wine of astonishing power and finesse, with a finish that must be tasted to be believed. It is a monumental effort that may well justify a perfect score in another decade. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2060.
Ch. D' YQUEM 1982 $529 /btle
"This vintage, seriously maligned because of the rains that plagued the harvest in Sauternes, was actually an outstanding vintage for Yquem. This is still a great Yquem that has been somewhat overlooked because of the attention lavished on the 1983 and 1986. Anticipated maturity: Now-2020."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1983 $794 /btle
"The 1983 is among the most concentrated wines from this property over the last 20 years, with a staggering display of extract and a mind-boggling amount of glycerin. Most observers feel the 1983 will mature more slowly than the 1986, and will last for almost 100 years. Given Yquem's unbelievable aging potential, such comments do not seem far fetched. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2050"
Ch. D' YQUEM 1985 $557 /btle
"The 1985 Yquem is a very powerful, rich, exceptionally concentrated wine. Yet because of the lack of botrytis in the vineyards during this hot, dry vintage, the wine does not have the complexity so frequently encountered. Nevertheless, this massive, unctuous, light golden-colored Yquem makes quite a mouthful of wine given the honeyed flavors. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1986 $636 /btle
"There is no other wine in the world like it, and there is no other luxury wine that can possibly justify its price as much as Yquem. his full-bodied, powerful, yet impeccably balanced Yquem should provide memorable drinking for 40-55 more years. Like the 1983, this is another winemaking tour de force. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2040."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1987 $398 /btle
"The 1987, from a difficult vintage, is a medium-weight d'Yquem, with enticing oaky, tropical fruit aromas, but the unctuosity and profound depth of flavor so obvious in top years are not present. Anticipated maturity: Now-2010."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1988 $636 /btle
"Millionaires will have considerable fun comparing the evolution of the 1988 d'Yquem with the 1986. The 1988 d'Yquem displays more richness and unctuosity than any young d'Yquem I have tasted. It should have 40-60 years of positive evolution, although one suspects that much of the production will be consumed within the next 4-5 years. If my instincts are correct, this is the most profound d'Yquem since the legendary 1959."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1989 $596 /btle
"The favorite sweet wine of millionaires, Chateau d'Yquem has, not unexpectedly, turned in a brilliant effort with their newly released 1989. The 1989 is the richest Yquem made in the eighties, and it has an edge in complexity over the powerhouse 1983. It remains to be seen whether this wine will develop the extraordinary aromatic complexity possessed by the promising 1988 and 1986 Yquems."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1991 $359 /btle
"Yquem's 1991 is a beautifully made, medium gold-colored wine with a gorgeous nose of creme brulee, roasted coffee, and sweet, honeyed pineapple and other assorted fruits. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2040."
Ch. D' YQUEM 1998 $214 /btle
"The 1998 Yquem (95 points) is a great success. Made in an elegant style, it is not a blockbuster such as 1990, 1989, and 1988. It is well-delineated, with wonderfully sweet aromas of creme brulee, pineapples, apricots, and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it is not as sweet as the biggest/richest Yquem vintages, but it is gorgeously pure, precise, and strikingly complex. Already approachable, it should evolve for 30-50 years ... without a doubt."
